Muscle Glossary

Aerobic                   Aerobic means living or occurring in the presence of air (oxygen)

Anaerobic                Anaerobic means living or occurring in the absence of air (oxygen)

Bio-Chemical           Relates to the chemical processes and substances which occur within living organisms.  The study of the chemistry behind biological processes and the synthesis of biologically active molecules

Bio-Mechanical       Relates to the mechanical laws concerning the movement or structure of living organisms.  The study of the action of external and internal forces on the living body, especially on the skeletal system

Metabolism              Metabolism is the set of life-sustaining chemical transformations within the cell of living organisms.

Nucleotide                Nucleotides are organic molecules that serve as the monomer units for forming the nucleic acid polymers DNA and RNA both of which are essential biomolecules in all life-forms. Nucleotides are the building blocks for nucleic acid. They carry chemical energy throughout the cell to the many cellular functions that demand energy

Phosphagen System Phosphagen system is used to provide ATP during short-term intense activities. Creatine phosphate stored in muscles donates a phosphate to ADP to produce ATP
